Amazon call for Technical Writer

Hello Guys,

I would like to get your guidance/advice regarding something that came back recently.

I have gone until onsite interview with Amazon for SDEII and have been rejected and since then I have started working on LeetCode and ramping up on System Design. I have completed upto ~200 questions and I feel I am almost ready to give another shot.

However, I was reached out by an Amazon recruiter last Friday regarding a Technical Writer role at Amazon.

The manager of the documentation team spoke to me today and had a conversation with me. He said that if I am willing they would like to go ahead with an interview process for this role. I assume this call comes given my profile of excellent reviews from students as a TA at college and my work with presenting some material in my previous job. I honestly feel that I have the skill to articulate a technical idea well to others - in a way they can understand easily.

However, I want to be coding and engineering things and not losing away my technical skills by moving into technical writing. I would like to know if anyone here have faced similar scenarios; or else knows someone who went through it.

I was also wondering what are the possibility of transitioning into an Engineering team from a Technical Writer role in Amazon. Is there someone here (or you know of someone) who had done that before?

Do you think I must be patient and continue to seek out engineering role or use this as an opportunity to segway into an engineering position at Amazon?

I would much appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you
