I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Professional Engineering license in Electrical Engineering, 7 years experience, and I started teaching myself Python ~2.5 years ago. I've been on Leetcode for about ~1.5 years and have one substantial github project (using Kivy, SQLite).

I got lucky when I first started studying - I got selected by the Google Foobar challenge and passed. I got in touch with the recruitment team but put off any interview until a few months ago (pretty awesome that they gave me that much time). Unfortunately my feedback was "borderline" so I might get another chance in a month or 2, but maybe not.

I would like to start doing technical interviews elsewhere, but it appears I'm still massively underqualified even for entry level roles. I can't find many jobs that use programming and overlap with my existing qualifications. It seems like a fresh college grad would be a better fit for any job than someone like me.

I've tried using hired.com and vettery.com, and both sites told me there are no jobs that match my qualifications (the sites mostly use professional experience). I've applied to some jobs that use Python and that are in my industry, and got turned down.

Now that I basically failed at Google, and can't get my foot in the door any where else, I feel like I basically wasted the last 3 years of my life learning everything I know now.

Where do I go from here? What other websites / resources should I use to job search? Any advice for someone going through a career change?
