A career advice needed

Hai all

I am from India. I am from Tier 3 college and I need HELP!
I started applying for internships 3 months ago to big 4 companies and no company approached me. Maybe that was due to I am unable to prove to them that I can pass their interviews and the projects that I did. A pathfinder visualization built using Processing and a Sudoku using Python. Both are not bug-free by the way.

So I started applying to web dev roles in many startups and cleared almost their assessments. I don't have any experience in web development before applying and when I got shortlisted, I started learning web dev.
But the thing is, I am unable to find any passion that drives me to learn web dev (they asked me to build a small e-commerce store using any JS framework if possible) and clear those assessments. I always feel dumb and pissed off when I can't even position an element correctly.

I am clearly learning web dev for internships. And I don't want to settle as a software developer in the future. My goal is to become a data scientist and I like coding. I practice regularly on CodeChef, LeetCode and sometimes Hackerrank. Or I can say that I don't like web development and I like coding a lot.

What to do?

Do I skip working on those assignments and start applying for other internship roles?
Or should I start preparing for the placement and technical interviews?
Or do I make myself stronger in competitive programming and start doing good projects so that I can get into big 4? As this is the second lockdown stage India, I want to make the most use out of it.

What to do to get notified or pass the resume test for these companies other than having a very good rank on competitive programming sites?

Please consider answering my questions. Your help and advice are very very appreciated.
Thank You. Cheers!
