Technical depth vs breadth in first 5 years of career

I've been at my current job for 3 years after graduating college, doing primarliy Go and C++ with a mix of python/javascript/C# at times.

I currently have two offers:

Company 1

  • Same industry as my current position
  • Similar stack, primarily Go and C++

Company 2

  • Different industry entirely
  • Different stack, JVM based languages

Compensation is similar for both positions. Company 1 provides free breakfast/lunch/dinner and has more of a start-up feel, while company 2 felt more corproate.

My initial thought was to go with company 1 since it is directly similar to what I'm doing now, but now I'm starting to think it may be a good opportunity to try something new with company 2.

From a career perspective, is it more ideal to focus on a couple languages (Go, C++), or would it be more beneficial to branch into a different industry and stack (Java/Scala/Kotlin)?
