Short variable names during interviews

In many of the great solutions posted here, I will often see variable names like:
A for matricies or arrays
g for graphs
h for heap
To me, this type of naming makes sense to me and I do not think it detracts from the quality of the code. Also, it's much easier to write on a whiteboard or to type during phone interviews. Especially since my handwriting is very messy.
However, would interviewers at FANGs mark down for short, one-letter names like this? Would they be ok, as long as you explain what they mean, and that they are being used partly due to the time constraints?
