During my assignment I was given work that was manual and did not utilized my skills, so I decided in my free hours join an opensource project Leveldb, I was interested in C++ and database engines then I debuged and learnt the flow of leveldb, Now when I applied in cloud company that used embedded database to cache their data I got edge from my work in opensource,

My suggestion If you are given downscaled work and want to switch to good companies and interesting work then you should look at projects published as opensource of language of your choice.
