Hi All,
I want some guidance regarding career path.
Following are some of my career details:
Education: Btech CS (Tier 3 college) + Mtech CS (One of Top 5 NIT)
Current organization: Good semiconductor industry having >30000 employees
Profile: Firmware Engineer.
Working in: C language
Total YOE: 3 (infact 1 month less than 3 Years), joined this company straight out of college.
Current compensation: 28 LPA (Base) + stocks(30K USD)
Competitive programming exp: Have solved 450+ questions from LC, and 100-200+ from other platforms (including Mtech days and while working)
In my profile, I work on C only, and deal with Firmware programming. I am getting good work in the current company which includes some bug fixing and feature development, and getting recognitions as well.
But, mostly I have this dilemma that I am not for this field, as I didnt had any proper education on microcontrollers and chipsets, and currently I am working on the System on Chip and at a very low level C. Some areas are quite interesting in my current work, where I get to the core and work on registers, think of environment interference, size limitations as its an SoC, and other things.
I am interested in DSA and Algo, and solve these questions after work hours because I like doing it and it keeps my mind active in problem solving.
I have appeared in interviews with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and cleared almost all coding rounds in these, but rejected in system design.
My current dilemma is that should I continue in this semiconductor field and start learning more and more with full interest.
Or, I should shift to pure software field, as there I might not face these unknowns which I see in Seminconductor field ?
I am really confused for the past one year and couldnt find some good guidance. It would be really helpful if you guys can share some insights.
Also, please share if there any pros and cons of joining pure software field which I should consider.
Responses will be really appreciated, please share your thoughts, it might help me in making a good informed decision.
