Transferring from Electrical Engineering to Software Engineering

Hi,

I am looking to transfer from electrical engineering to software engineering. I have about 4 years of full-time experience in the electrical engineering field and one year in software engineering on paper. It was a small company that I barely did anything which is why I left. I was hoping that I could learn something but I did not learn much.

I am trying to figure out what are essentially the courses I need to actually know to be able to transfer over. There is a decent amount of overlap between computer engineering/science and electrical engineering so I am hoping that within 4-6months of work I could probably catch up.

From my research it seems the bare minimum of what I need is :

  1. Object-Oriented Programming (probably Java even though Java itself may not be the best language to use, but a good one to learn on)
  2. Data Structures and Algorithms in C++
  3. Relational Databases (practical not theory)
  4. LeetCode to get through interview questions.

Good things to have are OS fundamentals, Networking fundamentals, WebDev stuff from HTML/CSS/JS/PHP, servers and security etc.
A short course on Linux commands, and general CS tools as well.

I am hoping that this would be enough to land a job and then learn on the job as I go.

Would appreciate the feedback.
