I am from India having 6 years of experience and working with a famous Japanese e-commerce company. I recently gave interview for another leading e-commerce company in Europe, headquartered in Berlin. The position is also based out of Berlin. Coming back, the interviews went well, I had 4 rounds of tech and 1 HR.
I got a verbal confirmation that I have been selected and being offered 72k euro as base with 10k as one year completion bonus. Apart from these, I will be entitled for visa sponsorship for me and my spouse and also flight, 1 month stay and any transportation charges under some limits. I knew this company for quite a while and it went public in 2014 (I guess) and also made visa sponsorship pre-covid as well. I have went through all pros and cons, work culture, tech, etc and I really like it.
The problem that I am facing is that they will be onboarding me as a contractor in India[until visa is approved and I fly to Berlin for taxing reasons] itself due to the current scenario worldwide. I have not done an international transfer/job before this nor have I worked with any contract jobs. I am really skeptical about this as I am not sure if this puts my monthly wages under risk. I might have to take a risk by jumping on the contract but at the end of the day, I am the only bread winner for my family so makes me set back. I can understand from a company's side this is the only way for them.
Anyone faced this scenario during pandemic and how did you deal/feel about it? Did you take the jump?? What would you recommend to me??? And also, can I ask for something in the contract to ensure my job security if so what????
PS: Like I said, only verbal offer was done on Friday, I am yet to get the final offer on Monday/Tuesday post some verifications.
